Senile peptic ulcer
Internal Medicine / Surgery / Traditional Chinese Medicine
Peptic ulcer disease (PUD) primarily refers to chronic ulcers occurring in the stomach and duodenal bulb. It is named because the formation of ulcers is related to the digestive action of gastric acid and pepsin. An ulcer refers to a mucosal defect that extends beyond the muscularis mucosae, thus differing from erosion. It generally refers to gastric ulcer (GU) and duodenal ulcer (DU). Peptic ulcer disease in the elderly is more severe than in younger individuals, but the clinical symptoms are often atypical and prone to complications. Traditional therapeutic methods have relatively poor efficacy, while invasive treatment is limited by comorbid diseases. Although advances have been made in the diagnosis and treatment of peptic ulcer disease in recent years, the mortality rate of elderly peptic ulcer disease has instead shown an increasing trend, and therefore sufficient attention should be paid to it.
