Dumping syndrome refers to a series of symptoms that can occur after gastric resection and gastrojejunostomy when the pylorus or its normal function is lost, causing gastric contents to suddenly dump into the duodenum or jejunum. It can occur after any type of gastric surgery, more commonly after Billroth II subtotal gastrectomy. Vagal nerve injury caused by esophageal surgery can also produce dumping symptoms.
