Hepato-thyroid syndrome refers to a syndrome in which chronic hepatitis and chronic thyroiditis occur simultaneously, with a certain etiological connection between the two. It was first reported by MCConkey et al. in 1960. This syndrome does not include liver damage caused by intrahepatic circulatory disturbances or metabolic abnormalities due to thyroid disease, nor enhanced responses to various etiological stimuli; nor does it include impairment of thyroid function caused by systemic malnutrition resulting from chronic liver disease.
