hypotension

Internal Medicine / Traditional Chinese Medicine

Hypotension is a general term for systemic arterial blood pressure lower than normal, divided into acute and chronic types. Most hypotension is chronic hypotension. There is currently no unified standard for diagnosis. It is generally considered that when the brachial artery blood pressure measured in adults is lower than 90/60 mmHg (12.0/8.0 kPa), it can be called hypotension. Primary hypotension is mainly manifested by fatigue, weakness, headache, dizziness, vague precordial pain, discomfort, listlessness, memory loss, sleep disturbances, and insomnia. Acute hypotension secondary to other serious diseases, such as myocardial infarction, stroke, diarrhea, massive hemorrhage, severe pain, or excessive fluid loss, may even cause syncope or shock. The condition is complex and acute and requires hospital diagnosis and treatment.
