Hepatic cyst is a relatively common benign liver disease, which can be classified as parasitic, non-parasitic, or congenital hereditary. Since the widespread use of ultrasonography, asymptomatic congenital hepatic cysts have become very common, often multiple, more frequent in middle-aged women, and frequently associated with polycystic kidney disease. The cyst wall of congenital hepatic cysts is composed of epithelial cells, and the cyst fluid is mostly colorless or transparent, appearing brown when hemorrhage occurs. Multiple cysts are often small and scattered throughout the liver. Asymptomatic hepatic cysts generally require no treatment; cysts with significant symptoms and large size may be treated by puncture or surgery.
