Crohn's disease

Internal Medicine / Surgery

Crohn's disease is a chronic, recurrent, and non-specific transmural inflammation of the digestive tract. The lesions are segmentally distributed and can involve any part of the digestive tract, with the terminal ileum being the most common site; colonic and anal involvement is also frequent. The disease may also be accompanied by extraintestinal manifestations involving the skin, eyes, and joints. Although Crohn's disease is a benign condition, its etiology remains unknown, and there is still no highly effective treatment.
