Spastic intestinal obstruction is caused by spastic contraction of the intestinal wall muscles, leading to impaired passage of intestinal contents, and is most commonly seen in the small intestine. This condition is extremely rare clinically. Patients often present with hyperactive bowel sounds, even gurgling sounds, and may also develop progressive abdominal distension; therefore, it is often easily misdiagnosed as mechanical intestinal obstruction in clinical practice.
