paraduodenal hernia

Internal Medicine / Surgery

During embryonic development, part of the intestinal tract and/or intestinal loops become enclosed within a retroperitoneal recess adjacent to the duodenum, which is called paraduodenal hernia, also known as mesenteric hernia, congenital mesocolic hernia, and retroperitoneal hernia. It is caused by abnormal midgut rotation during the embryonic period and is a congenital internal hernia, more commonly seen on the left side.
