Hair bezoar intestinal obstruction syndrome, also known as Rapunzel syndrome, is a rare condition. As early as 1812, Jacob and Grimm first reported a case in a young female patient, who was named Rapunzel, hence the name. Gastrointestinal hair bezoars have also been reported in China.
