Acute icteric hepatitis is a clinical subtype of acute hepatitis. Based on the presence or absence of jaundice and elevation of serum bilirubin in patients with acute hepatitis, acute hepatitis is divided into acute icteric hepatitis and acute anicteric hepatitis. Acute icteric hepatitis is a diagnosis based on clinical symptoms rather than etiology. Hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E viruses can all cause this type of hepatitis; it is most commonly seen in hepatitis A virus infection, followed by hepatitis E virus infection.
