acute abdomen

Internal Medicine / Surgery

Acute abdomen is a general term for acute abdominal diseases. Common acute abdominal conditions include: acute appendicitis, acute perforation of peptic ulcers, acute intestinal obstruction, acute biliary tract infection and cholelithiasis, acute pancreatitis, abdominal trauma, urinary tract stones, and ruptured ectopic pregnancy. In addition, certain systemic or other system diseases, such as porphyria, hypokalemia, septicemia, spinal trauma, or spinal cord diseases, may also present with clinical manifestations similar to acute abdomen. Acute abdomen refers to acute pathological changes occurring in the tissues and organs of the abdominal cavity, pelvic cavity, and retroperitoneum, producing clinical manifestations dominated by abdominal symptoms and signs, accompanied by systemic reactions, with acute abdominal pain being the most common. There are three types of abdominal pain: visceral pain, peritoneal irritation pain, and referred (radiating) pain. The disease course is characterized by: acute onset, rapid progression, severity, and variable manifestations.
