Duodenal diverticulum obstructive jaundice syndrome (Lemmel Syndrome) refers to a condition in which a duodenal diverticulum compresses the common bile duct, affecting the excretion of bile and pancreatic juice and causing obstructive jaundice or pancreatitis. Lemmel first proposed this syndrome in 1934 and referred to cases with obvious obstruction of the common bile duct and pancreatic duct as papillary syndrome.
