Bacteria of the Vibrionaceae family include the genera Vibrio and Plesiomonas. The population is generally susceptible, with young and middle-aged adults being more commonly affected. Immunodeficient individuals, those with alcoholism, and patients with cholecystitis are prone to vibrio septicemia. The disease can occur in all seasons, with a higher incidence in summer. Clinical manifestations vary, mainly involving two aspects: one is diarrhea and other gastroenteritis manifestations; the other is extraintestinal infections, commonly including oral, ear, and wound infections as well as septicemia. These extraintestinal infections can be seen in infections with Vibrio mimicus and Vibrio vulnificus.
