senile osteoporosis
Internal Medicine / Orthopedics / Traditional Chinese Medicine
Osteoporosis is a systemic bone disease characterized by decreased bone mass and destruction of the bone microarchitecture, manifested as increased bone fragility, thus greatly increasing the risk of fractures, which can occur even with minor trauma or without trauma. Osteoporosis is a chronic disease caused by multiple factors. After age 50, the risk of osteoporotic fractures is about 40% in women and about 13% in men. Vertebral fractures are the most common. The incidence is highest in women aged 60–70 years. The incidence increases significantly in women over 75 years and men over 80 years. Hip fracture is a devastating lesion of osteoporosis, with 15%–20% of patients dying within 1 year after the fracture due to various complications, and the mortality rate in men is twice that in women.
