Sjögren's syndrome is a chronic autoimmune disease that primarily affects exocrine glands, especially the salivary and lacrimal glands. Its main manifestations are dry mouth and dry eyes, and it may also involve damage to multiple organs and systems. The affected organs show extensive lymphocytic infiltration, and multiple autoantibodies are positive in the serum. This syndrome is also known as autoimmune exocrinopathy, Sjögren's syndrome, and sicca-arthritis syndrome, and it often overlaps with other rheumatic or autoimmune diseases.
