Renal cell carcinoma

Internal Medicine / Oncology

Renal cell carcinoma, also known as renal cell carcinoma or renal adenocarcinoma, is the most common malignant tumor of the renal parenchyma. Due to increased average life expectancy and advances in medical imaging, the incidence of renal cell carcinoma has increased compared to the past. The number of renal cell carcinomas discovered incidentally during physical examinations without obvious clinical symptoms is increasing, accounting for up to 1/2 to 1/5 of cases. Renal cell carcinoma most commonly occurs between 50 and 70 years of age, with an incidence more than twice as high in men as in women. The etiology of renal cell carcinoma remains unclear. Statistics suggest a possible association with smoking, particularly in male patients. Additionally, renal cell carcinoma shows familial clustering, suggesting a possible genetic component.
