Glomerulonephritis, also known as nephritis, is an allergic disease occurring in the glomeruli of both kidneys. Glomerulonephritis is a common kidney disease, divided into acute and chronic types. This disease mostly occurs after streptococcal infection; most cases had a preceding infection such as pharyngitis or tonsillitis 2 to 3 weeks earlier, but there is no parallel relationship between the degree of infection and the onset of the disease. Forty percent of patients first seek medical attention due to hematuria; 90% of cases develop edema, with mild cases showing eyelid swelling after waking in the morning and severe cases having edema extending throughout the body, even ascites, shortness of breath, and abdominal distension. Some patients have elevated blood pressure with headache, and almost all urine tests contain protein (proteinuria).
