Senile obesity refers to obesity that occurs or exists in the elderly over 60 years of age. Obesity is a pathological state in which there is an increase in the number of fat cells or an increase in their volume, causing excessive accumulation and/or abnormal distribution of body fat, with body weight exceeding the standard body weight by more than 20%. On the other hand, obesity is a complex of multiple conditions, as it often coexists with type 2 diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, ischemic heart disease, etc.; therefore, it is also a chronic metabolic disorder. When no obvious cause can be found, it is called simple obesity. Obesity can also be one of the clinical manifestations of certain diseases (such as hypothalamic-pituitary inflammation, tumors, trauma, Cushing's syndrome, hypothyroidism, and hypogonadism), and is then also called secondary obesity.
