Polycystic ovary syndrome

Internal Medicine / 妇产科

Polycystic ovary syndrome is an endocrine disorder characterized by enlarged ovaries containing many small fluid-filled cysts, elevated androgen levels, and failure to ovulate. The most notable feature is anovulation. Abbreviated as PCOS. The etiology of PCOS remains unclear. It is generally believed to be related to dysfunction of the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis, adrenal dysfunction, genetics, metabolism, and other factors. A small number of PCOS patients have sex chromosome or autosomal abnormalities, and some have a family history. Recently, certain genes (such as CYP11A and the VNTR of the insulin gene) have been found to be associated with the occurrence of PCOS, further confirming the role of genetic factors in the pathogenesis of PCOS.
