Nonfunctioning parathyroid cysts are different from cystic degeneration of parathyroid adenomas. Some reports have confused the two, but nonfunctioning parathyroid cysts are fundamentally different from cystic degeneration of parathyroid adenomas in both clinical manifestations and treatment methods. Nonfunctioning parathyroid cysts are clinically rare, but according to autopsy data, before puberty, 40% to 50% of people have microscopic microcysts, and after age 20, almost everyone has microscopic microcysts. Therefore, the clinical incidence of nonfunctioning parathyroid cysts is much lower than their actual occurrence rate.
