endocrine disease

Internal Medicine

Endocrine diseases: This is a general term for endocrine abnormality diseases. If no specific disease is specified, it generally refers to diabetes and thyroid diseases. Diabetes is a common disease caused by the interaction of genetic and environmental factors, with hyperglycemia as the main clinical marker. Common symptoms include polydipsia, polyuria, polyphagia, and weight loss. Diabetes can cause damage to multiple systems of the body. It causes absolute or relative deficiency of insulin secretion and decreased sensitivity of target tissue cells to insulin, leading to a series of metabolic disorder syndromes involving proteins, fats, water, and electrolytes, with hyperglycemia as the main marker. Type 1 diabetes mostly occurs in adolescents and depends on exogenous insulin supplementation to maintain life; Type 2 diabetes is more common in middle-aged and elderly people, manifesting as the body's insufficient sensitivity to insulin, i.e., insulin resistance. Diabetes in different populations: neonatal diabetes, childhood diabetes, maturity-onset diabetes of the young, gestational diabetes, and elderly diabetes.
