Cerebral palsy with cranial nerve atrophy

Internal Medicine / Surgery

Cerebral palsy (CP), referred to simply as cerebral palsy, usually refers to central motor disorders caused by non-progressive brain injury or abnormal brain development from various causes occurring from before birth to within one month after birth. Clinically, it is characterized by abnormal posture and muscle tone, muscle weakness, involuntary movements, and ataxia, often accompanied by sensory, cognitive, communication, and behavioral disorders, as well as secondary musculoskeletal abnormalities, and may include epileptic seizures. Non-progressive central motor disorders caused by various reasons after one month of birth are sometimes referred to as acquired cerebral palsy, accounting for approximately 10% of childhood cerebral palsy. The incidence of cerebral palsy is approximately 1.2-2.5 per 1000 live births.
