Stroke is a cerebrovascular circulatory disorder disease with sudden onset. Also known as cerebrovascular accident. It refers to acute cerebral circulatory disturbance caused by various predisposing factors leading to stenosis, occlusion, or rupture of cerebral arteries in patients with cerebrovascular disease, clinically manifested as transient or permanent symptoms and signs of brain dysfunction. Stroke is divided into ischemic stroke and hemorrhagic stroke. "Zhong" means strike, also referring to being hit by arrows or stones. "Feng" (wind) is mobile and changeable, like a sudden violent storm. Ancient people associated the symptoms of such diseases with observed natural phenomena and named the disease through metaphor, hence the name stroke. Stroke is a common refractory disease that seriously endangers human health and life safety. Traditional Chinese medicine ranks it first among the four major difficult diseases of "wind, consumption, tympanites, and diaphragm obstruction," with a notable phenomenon of "three highs" (high incidence rate, high disability rate, and high mortality rate). According to statistics, China has 2 million new stroke patients annually, with an incidence rate as high as 120 per 100,000. Currently, there are 7 million stroke survivors, of whom 4.5 million have varying degrees of loss of labor capacity and inability to care for themselves. The disability rate is as high as 75%. In China, 1.2 million stroke patients die each year. Patients who have already had a stroke are also prone to recurrence, and each recurrence worsens the condition. Therefore, effective measures are urgently needed to prevent recurrence. Stroke poses a great threat to human health and life, causes immense suffering to patients, and places a heavy burden on families and society. Thus, fully recognizing the severity of stroke, improving the level of treatment and prevention, and reducing the incidence, disability, and mortality rates of stroke are urgent priorities.
