Cerebral contusion and laceration is a collective term for cerebral contusion and cerebral laceration, because from the pathological perspective of brain injury, contusion and laceration often coexist simultaneously, with the difference only being which is more severe or milder. Generally, contusions and lacerations on the brain surface are mostly located at the site of the violent impact and the contrecoup site, especially the latter, which is always more severe and often predominantly found at the frontal and temporal tips and the base, due to the sliding and collision of brain tissue within the cranial cavity. Contusions and lacerations within the brain parenchyma are often caused by deformation of brain tissue and shearing forces, frequently occurring between structures of different densities, mainly presenting as contusions and punctate hemorrhages.
