Idiopathic ventricular fibrillation

Internal Medicine

Idiopathic ventricular fibrillation, also known as primary electrical heart disease, arrhythmic death without organic heart disease, and sudden arrhythmic death syndrome, refers to ventricular fibrillation of unknown cause. That is, after comprehensive invasive and non-invasive examinations (including autopsy) of patients with ventricular fibrillation, sudden death, and its survivors, no organic or functional clinical cause of the malignant arrhythmia can be identified. If such patients are found during follow-up to have related causes such as coronary heart disease or cardiomyopathy, the original diagnosis should be revised. Seventy percent of cases occur in otherwise healthy males under 40 years of age. In recent years, reports of this disease in Southeast Asian countries (such as the Philippines, Thailand, and Singapore) have increased year by year.
