Syphilitic cardiovascular disease

Internal Medicine / 皮肤性病科

Syphilitic cardiovascular disease is a cardiovascular lesion caused by Treponema pallidum invading the body and affecting the cardiovascular system in the late stage (tertiary stage), including syphilitic aortitis, syphilitic aortic regurgitation, syphilitic aortic aneurysm, coronary ostial stenosis, and myocardial gumma. The vast majority of syphilis is acquired, while congenital syphilis is rare. Although cardiovascular syphilis is currently rare, it still exists. The disease progresses slowly, with onset occurring 10-25 years after initial syphilis infection (as early as 5 years, as late as 40 years). Patients are mostly aged 35-50 years, with a male-to-female ratio of 4:1 to 5:1.
